We're going to look at the leader of the Stunticons, Motormaster.
Motormaster transforms into a silver semi truck. I know nothing about trucks other than the fact that there was a show about pimping out old trucks. He is actually pretty large.
There are a few pain apps, namely the front wind shield, some purple stripes, silver grill and the yellow on the lights. Part of the windshield is not painted... so it looks incomplete. There's a tiny decepticon symbol on the grill piece.
The windows on the sides are not even fully painted in. Rims are not painted at all. There are some nice details in the truck though like the weird vertical front grill and the side vents near the rims.
The rear has some lights molded on the black parts, the combined mode crotch plate and some ports for weapon mode. Note that there are notches on the 5mm ports, so I'm not sure if a standard 5mm weapons can fit. There is a port for a trailer. 3rd party companies will have a field day creating trailers.
Speaking of weapons, to store the weapons, the sword and gun has a port and peg on the side.
And just plug it in one of the 2 holes at the back of the truck.
To transform him is actually very simple. 1st open the side panels of the truck.
Flip them completely down. It's simply pegged into slots on the side.
The knees peg into the arms, so simply unpeg it.
and straighten out the legs.
Open up the windshield to reveal the chest. Flip the wind deflectors up.
Then the side windows (?) tab into slots on the rear of the truck.
You'll end up with most of the bot mode already set in place.
Flip the abdomen up and unpeg and straighten the legs.
Flip the head around, like a ferris wheel.
And you get Motormaster in bot mode. He is burly and gorilla-like, which suits him more than Optimus imo. Still, his mass is somewhat misused, and we'll get to that in the torso mode.
New paint apps are added, such as the pale face, more purple and the black chest. I find the head sculpt a bit weird, specifically the eyes. I don't know why but he reminds me of Crasher from Gobots.
Maybe it's the eyes. They are too... Asian...
Leg details look nice as well. As he is a remold of Prime, the lower legs have Prime like details like the shin vents.
Articulation-wise, he is almost complete. His head is on a very well moving ball-joint. 360 arms, bicep swivels, 90 degree elbows and massive shoulder ratchets. He has a waist rotation, knee swivels, his hips click softly front and back, and it clicks massively to the side. No wrist swivels.
Common problem with the new Hasbro figures is that the really heavy ratchets, don't have enough click points. Example is the hips. He is either standing straight...
or really splayed out.
Same goes with the shoulders. I honestly do not get the point of installing the massive ratchets on the shoulders. I do not find it helpful in combined mode, since it still comes apart when moved incorrectly.
Accessories, he comes with a sword and an alien gun.
Unfortunately for me, his limited range on his hips and shoulders makes it difficult to pose.
If you play with the angles, you can get some decent poses, but honestly, it's very limited.
You can combine the gun and sword to make the Menasor sword and make him wield it.
As a voyager combiner wars toy, he transforms into a torso. So from bot mode, swivel legs so it points to the side, and click the hips 3 clicks outward.
flip the black "hips" and tab it in to the thighs. This will lock the hips of the combined mode into place. Then rotate the waist 180.
And he'll end up looking like so. Looking pretty goofy so far.
Next rotate the arms so the grill is facing forwards, and use the double joint to swivel the forearms to the back.
The forearms have pegs that peg into some slots on the base of the shoulder.
Flip the wrist down and most of the chest is completed.
Flip the crotch piece to the... well crotch area. It also forms the abs of the bot
Open the black chest to reveal the head.
Flip the entire assemble up, and flip the horns out.
With that, torso mode is complete.
He is the weakest torso from the 3 released. He is massive, but as stated his mass usage is off along with his proportions. From the front, he looks fine.
From the side, you notice that the chest is too large, and he has not crotch bulk at all.
His back is also hollow... with most of the mass focused on the arm connector area.
Several things I feel made it not work:
1. 3 clicks on the hips is too much, it makes him look stupid with a very wide crotch gap. I know thigh gaps are a thing but this is ridiculous.
2. The bot mode hips is still the combined mode hips, and with the new added weight, makes it insufficient.
3. They should have used the shoulder ratchets on the hips to make it more stable. The shoulder ratchets do nothing at this point since there are tabs that are suppose to keep it in place. And it doesn't.
As bulky as he is, I would say he only looks good when you look at him from the front, Like the FOC Bruticus, but less bad.
If you do not like the Galvatron chest, you can close the panels up.
It'll give him a hollow boob though.
So to conclude, he is a decent toy, but not as well engineered as the Superion/Defensor set. His articulation is compromised by the giant ratchets and his Torso mode only looks good when you look at him from the front. If you want a modern Motormaster that's cheap, then He is your only choice. There is the Fans project one, but he is expensive. If you just want a nice combiner, regardless of character, choose either Superion/Cyclonus or Defensor. I chose the stunticons since I prefer decepticons.
I'll review Menasor separately so I can show some alternative transformation for the torso to make him look decent. This caps the review for Motormaster. More pics below.
Long overdue post! 3rd wave is already out for a month!!! |

He watched it a lot, but can't remember the show name. Story of his life |

If this was a gun, it'll look like that jet engined powered truck |

His chest detail is pretty cool, ala movie Galvatron. He has nipple pegs where you can plug in Blackjac (which I do not have). Head sculpt is spot on.
