Toy Review: Generations Scourge

Today we are going to take a look at Transformers Generations Scourge from 2011.

Way to keep updated on your Tf content

Scourge's alt mode is based on a flying wing concept from Boeing, close in design to the X-46B. He's no longer a flying bathtub.

The wings are upside down, but the there are still 3 circular things on top of the plane... so technically 3 engines.

The head pipe is a cybertronian engine
What's amazing on this bot is that the plane is completely kibble free. Which is a rarity among jet/plane transformers. It's not as thin as the concept but still very, very excellent.
demonstrate.. by crashing

More shots of the alt mode.

The details on the jet engines are superb.

You can also pop-up the head, so he can see where he's going.

with that face, this would be illegal if it was a van
He also has landing gears... placed in the middle of the plane.

On to robot mode... I'll skip the transformation steps (and in future TF reviews). You can find a more vicarious experience via video reviews.

He looks wide and beefy. Wide but not stocky. He has decent paint apps. Even his fingers are painted correctly. And he has a giant Decepticon symbol tampographed on his chest.

beefy

He also has lots of nice surface details on him. Especially love the panel lines on the wings.

He also has that manly, gentlemanly mustache, goatee combo. And an angry scowling face, unfitting of a proper gentleman.

are you sniffing gasoline again?
He's suppose to have light piping... but oddly enough, his is blue. I painted mine red though
Animated fans be raging
Articulation wise, he has all the basics covered most of which has good range of motion. Special note on wrist swivels, a waist joint and ankle tilts.

I say most because the design of the thighs and the crotch makes moving the leg upwards limited.
at least his thighs aren't as gigantic as yours...
And he as a rather large backpack, which makes him back heavy if not balanced correctly. Mine also has a habit of un-pegging itself.

Speaking of the wings, scourge has some variety to how his wings can be posed and transformed. You can either have the wings folded up into jet mode wings.

or spread it out to properly form his cape.

There is a double hinge in his wings that will let it compress even further.

As far as weapons go, he has 2 pistols that can be stored in his wings. This is also where they go in alt mode. No exposed weapons here.

engineering done brilliantly
The Big gun can fold up for storage mode, while the little double barreled gun's handle can fold.

The two barreled gun has a c-clip, that can clip onto any compatible clipping point. The most amusing one being on his head.

Not a gentlemanly tophat
Of course he can dual wield it.

You can combine the guns to make his target master, using the c-clip on the little gun.

Size comparison with other figures. He's taller as an average 18 meter HGUC.

Overall, he is one of the strongest toy to come out in 2011, back in the heyday of the transformers line. Beautifully engineered, great design, and represents a peak in transformers toy design overall. All under the hasbro budget. The only reason you shouldn't get him is if you are not a fan of facial hair on robots. Hoping to see a combiner wars version of him for galvatronus.
